Myanmar

Myanmar is internationally known for high-value gem materials and for diverse mineralization linked to complex tectonics and metamorphic belts. In an Origins context, it’s most often associated with jadeite jade and ruby-bearing metamorphic settings.

Known for

Stone & mineral context

  • Jadeite formation: Jadeite is associated with high-pressure metamorphic environments and tectonic mixing zones.
  • Ruby-bearing rocks: Rubies form in aluminum-rich metamorphic rocks under specific pressure–temperature conditions.
  • Alluvial deposits: Durable gems can accumulate in river gravels, where they are recovered as rough.

Common specimen types

Jadeite jade (rough and polished), ruby and corundum-bearing pieces, and related metamorphic rock specimens.

Care notes

Jade is tough but can chip on edges; store separately from harder, abrasive minerals. Ruby/corundum is hard but can fracture—avoid impacts and thermal shock.
