What Connecticut Is Known For

Connecticut sits at the meeting point of New England’s long-lived mountain-building history and younger rift-basin sedimentation. Much of the state is underlain by metamorphic rocks (gneiss, schist, amphibolite) intruded by granites and pegmatites, while the central valley preserves Triassic–Jurassic sandstones, conglomerates, and basalt flows. Glaciation later reshaped the landscape and scattered distinctive boulders across the region.

Metamorphic Foundations
