Origins FAQ
Notes on how we describe provenance, sourcing, and “country of origin” across educational pages and shop listings.
What does “country of origin” mean here?
It’s a browsing lens. For natural materials, “origin” can refer to geological occurrence, common export sources, or where a specimen was collected and documented.
Do you guarantee provenance for every specimen?
Not always. When a listing has documented locality details, we’ll include them. Otherwise, we use best-available sourcing information and label it clearly.
Why are some stones associated with many countries?
Many minerals and rock types occur globally. “Known for” highlights well-known localities, major deposits, or historically important sources—not exclusivity.
How do you handle treated or manufactured materials?
We note treatments and manufacturing when known (e.g., dyed, stabilized, composite). For decor/tiles, origin may refer to quarry source or manufacturing country depending on documentation.
Where should I start if I’m new?
Start with Origins Overview, then browse the U.S. hub or pick a country you’re curious about. For shopping, head to Shop and filter by material type.
Can I suggest corrections or add locality info?
Yes—email us at info@ornamentalstones.com with references or listing links, and we’ll review.
